Born in Zurich, Switzerland, 1976. He studied music pedagogy and performance at the Music Department of the Lucerne Universtiy of applied Sciences and Arts. Graduation with honours in 2004. Studies with Nat Su, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Lauren Newton, Simon Nabatov and Marc Turner.
Michael Jaeger is quick to attract attention via the individuality of his improvisation style and his playing concept. He has been active in the Swiss and European jazz scene since 2004. To date, his jazz musicians‘ collective Michael Jaeger KEROUAC has released three CDs of Jaeger’s music on the renowned label Intakt Records and has played concerts all over Europe. His tours have also taken him to Egypt and the USA. Since 2009, he has been collaborating with choreographer Yvonne Meier, New York. Numerous projects in the fields of dance, theatre, electronics, film and literature.
Collaborations with Tom Rainey, Greg Osby, Norbert Pfammatter, Urs Leimgruber, Nat Su, Philipp Schaufelberger, Hans Koch, Fabian Gisler, Martin Schütz, Christian Weber and many others.
Between his excellent clarinet and tenor sax work, Jaeger is an emerging musician bearing a close watch over the next decade.»

Michael Jaeger’s playing takes its origins from the spirit of black ballads. It is present day stories which are being told here and which then fan out. If there is an echo of John Coltrane here, a hint of Evan Parker there and finally also a tiny tribute to Jimmy Giuffre, it is neither about borrowing idioms nor about playing quotes, it is about playing with a wealth of experience.
